About Passport Photo Maker
Passport Photo Maker is a free online tool to create passport, visa and ID photos in minutes. Crop your picture, set the exact size, choose a background colour, reduce the file size and print many copies on one sheet. Everything runs in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded to any server.
How to Use
- Upload your photo: Drag and drop a JPEG, PNG or WebP image, or click Upload Photo.
- Choose a size: Select Passport (3.5 × 4.5 cm), Visa (4 × 6 cm), Photo print (5 × 7 cm), 200 × 230 px, or enter a custom size.
- Adjust the photo: Drag to reposition, use the zoom slider, flip if needed and pick a white, light blue or custom background.
- Set the file size: Choose a target such as 20–50 KB or 50–100 KB, then pick JPEG or PNG.
- Download or print: Download the photo, or open the Printable Sheet, select A4 or 4 × 6 inch, set rows and columns, and print.
Important Rules: How the Tool Works
- Cropping: Your photo fills the selected frame, so the edges may be cropped. Drag the photo and use the zoom slider to choose the part you want to keep.
- Fit to frame: This shows the full photo inside the frame. If the photo shape does not match the selected size, empty space is filled with the background colour (white by default).
- Landscape photos: A wide banner or landscape image will be cropped in a passport or square size. To keep the full image, choose Custom size and enter dimensions in the same ratio, for example 1280 × 720 px.
- Resize: Pick a preset or enter a custom width and height in cm or px. The downloaded file uses exactly the pixel size you set.
- Compress: Choose a target (20–50 KB, 50–100 KB, 100–200 KB or custom) and click Download Compressed Photo. The tool lowers JPEG quality first. If the target is still not reached, it also reduces the image dimensions, so check the Output Dimensions shown before uploading to a form.
- Format: JPEG gives the smallest files. PNG is larger and may need more dimension reduction.
- Upload limits: Only JPEG, JPG, PNG and WebP files up to 25 MB are supported.
- Background colour: The colour only fills empty areas. It does not remove the original background.
- Printing: Print the sheet at 100% scale with "Fit to page" turned off to keep the exact photo size.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tool free?
Yes. You can create and download as many photos as you like at no cost.
Is my photo safe?
Yes. Your photo is processed inside your browser and is not uploaded by this tool.
Can it remove the background automatically?
No. The background colour only fills empty areas. For best results, take your photo against a plain white or light wall.
Will the exact file size be guaranteed?
The tool adjusts quality and dimensions to come close to your target, but an exact size cannot be guaranteed. If the target cannot be reached, you will see a warning.
Why do I see white space around my photo?
This happens when Fit to frame is used, the zoom is below 100%, or the photo shape differs from the selected size. Click Reset crop, or choose a custom size with the same ratio as your photo.
Why did the output size change after compression?
To reach your KB target, the tool may reduce the image dimensions. The final size is shown under Output Dimensions. If a form needs exact pixels, set the size again and use a slightly higher KB target.
Will my photo be accepted for a passport or exam form?
Photo size and background rules differ by country and application. Our presets are convenient defaults, not a guarantee of acceptance, so always check the official requirements.
How do I print at the correct size?
Print at 100% scale and turn off "Fit to page" in your print settings so the photos keep their real dimensions.
